Our Mother’s Home Celebrates Grand Opening with Nearly 200 Guests and Ribbon Cutting

Our Mother’s Home of Southwest Florida (OMH) is proud to celebrate the successful grand opening of its new home at 2666 Swamp Cabbage Ct, Fort Myers, FL 33901. The Ribbon Cutting and Open House event on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, welcomed nearly 200 guests who gathered to witness this major milestone in the organization’s journey.

Attendees enjoyed light hors d’oeuvres and a champagne toast, generously sponsored by Stephanie Ink-Edwards of Community Cooperative, just before Mayor Kevin Anderson performed the official ribbon cutting on behalf of the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce. The event was a momentous occasion, filled with gratitude and reflection on the long road that led to this achievement.

New Executive Director Angela Rackley-Meadows and Board President Marin Asher shared heartfelt remarks about the perseverance and dedication required to bring this vision to life. They highlighted the challenges faced along the way, including the setbacks caused by Hurricane Ian, rising construction costs, and the loss of financial support. Despite these obstacles, OMH remained steadfast in its mission to provide a safe and supportive home for teen mothers and their children.

“This new home isn’t just a place to live—it’s a sanctuary for growth, stability, and opportunity,” said Rackley-Meadows. “The expanded space allows us to provide comprehensive support for our young mothers, whether they’re still in foster care or transitioning into independence. It’s a vital resource for breaking the cycle of instability and empowering these women to thrive.”

The new facility is designed to serve both teen mothers in foster care (ages 11-17) and those who have aged out, offering a transitional living space where they can stay with their children in a supportive environment until the age of 21. The home features expanded living and childcare areas, an education room for tutoring and skill-building, additional office space to support OMH’s growing mission, and a developing community pantry to assist both residents and the surrounding community.

Guests were given guided tours of the facility, offering them a firsthand look at how the space will transform lives. Many expressed their admiration for the resilience and commitment of the OMH team and its supporters in making this dream a reality.

“This project would not have been possible without the incredible generosity of our community and supporters, who stood by us through many obstacles over the last few years,” added Rackley-Meadows. “Together, we’ve created a space that embodies hope and opportunity for the mothers and children who need it most.”

As OMH embarks on this new chapter, they remain committed to their mission of empowering young mothers through education, housing, and comprehensive support. The successful grand opening marks the beginning of a brighter future for many, and the organization looks forward to continuing its work in transforming lives for years to come.
